DJLCMC was established in 2007 by our principal psychotherapist and founder, Dr Jane Leigh.
With over 20 years of experience in the mental health industry, Dr Jane has worked with clients from a wide spectrum of backgrounds in both the public and private mental health and community sectors and is an active member of the mental health industry.
Dr Leigh is also an ambassador for Beyond Blue, a lecturer at universities and an author. Her book and publications can be viewed here.
Dr Jane Leigh is a Director, Clinical Psychotherapist and Author who holds a Doctorate (PhD) in Counselling/Psychology. She is currently the Clinical Director of her own private counselling practice in Melbourne’s western suburbs and has been for the last 12 years. She has a total of 25 years of professional experience in the mental health industry and has worked in the public, private, not-for-profit and government sectors.
Dr Leigh is a specialist mental health clinician in all areas of mental health and wellbeing. Throughout her extensive career, Dr Leigh has worked with a broad client base which includes, but is not limited to, individuals, couples, families, children, adolescents, substance abusers, drug and alcohol rehabilitation organisations and victims and perpetrators of crime. Dr Leigh is also a policy analyst for mental health organisations and she is very involved in humanitarian advocacy for various government and mental health organisations around Australia and internationally.
Dr Leigh is a very active member of the Australian community, promoting the support of individuals with mental illness and speaking out about the debilitating effects of trauma, abuse, and depression through many articles and interviews. Dr Leigh also organises and runs group seminars, conferences, and support groups for various areas of mental health in Melbourne, around Australia and internationally.
Dr Leigh is very experienced, down-to-earth, compassionate and insightful, and practices a range of therapies during her sessions. She is very multi-modal, tailoring each session to meet her clients’ therapeutic needs. Dr Leigh incorporates many contemporary models of counselling into her practice, some of which include: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Narrative and Creative Arts Therapy, Process-Oriented Therapy, Mindfulness-based Therapy, EMDR and Solution-Focused Therapy. Overall, Dr Leigh applies an integrated, client-centered approach, and is skilled at helping her clients effectively address a wide variety of issues.
