Firstly, I would like to say a big thank you to all my followers and for all your valuable comments. Much appreciated
Following on from the topic of depression from last week (please click here to view my other posts on WordPress), I’ve been asked many clients for tips on how to start the day. For those of you who have watched close ones battle with, or have suffered (or are still suffering) from depression, you don’t need me to tell you that sometimes waking up is itself a battle. There is a quote I stumbled upon in my research a while ago that I would like to share with you: “Sometimes it’s ok if the only thing you do today is breathe.”
It really is ok. When you are depressed, just breathing is an effort. My advice to clients (and myself) is this: As soon as you open your eyes in the morning, before you start to stress about the day’s chores / activities etc., make sure you close your eyes and SMILE.
It may sound silly but it works for me. Smiling exercises our “happy muscles”, which in turn, makes us feel positive – what a great feeling. Some days as soon as I wake up my thoughts begin rushing around in my head about what I’ve got to do, what I haven’t done and everything else (that quite frankly must not be that important because I can’t remember what they were) so much so that I’ve tired myself out even before I’ve gotten out of bed!
So, what I do now, first thing in the morning, sometimes even before I open my eyes, is I choose to begin my day with a smile
Hope this will bring a smile to your face in the morning
